How to compress a video without losing quality

  1. Choose or drop your video (MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and more).
  2. Pick a quality level. Balanced suits most videos.
  3. Press Compress video and download the smaller file.

How the compression works

Instead of forcing a fixed file size, the compressor keeps a steady visual quality and lets the file shrink as much as the content allows. A talking-head clip shrinks a lot. Fast action with lots of detail shrinks less, but still looks right.

H.264 plays on practically every phone, laptop and TV. H.265 makes files noticeably smaller but older devices may not play it, so it's best when you know where the video will be watched.

Phone videos often carry the GPS location where they were filmed. That hidden information is removed by default.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my video get?
It depends on the video. Phone recordings often shrink by half or more. If a video was already heavily compressed, the result may be similar in size, and we'll tell you so you can keep the original.
Will my video lose quality?
The High and Balanced settings are tuned so differences are hard to see on a phone or laptop. Choose Smallest when size matters more than detail.
Is my video private?
Your video is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted within an hour. You can also delete it yourself the moment you've downloaded the result.
Which formats can I compress?
MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, M4V, WebM, WMV, FLV and 3GP. The result is always an MP4 that plays everywhere.
